The Beheading of John the Baptist

The Beheading of John the Baptist

This physical event was an illustration of the spiritual event that was taking place at that time. A transition from worshipping God through mind and body to worshipping God through the heart. Both were present at the time, John with his disciples and Jesus with his disciples, and the disciples of John were taking notice.

“Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?” Matthew 9:14

Jesus answers in parables, using symbolism, speaking of the children of the bridechamber, the bridegroom, the new cloth, the old garment, the new wine, and the old bottles. Jesus is saying that it is not going to be easy for those serving God through their mind and body to accept this new way the way through the heart. They found the parables, the symbolism, hard to understand. It was God’s spiritual language, delivered to the world through His Son (i.e. seed or word), one foreign to the religious ear. And if they were not able to hear the message in the literal sense, how could they possibly hear it in the spiritual sense, which is to obey it to put action to it. It was the new wine, which cannot be put into old bottles. What Jesus was talking about through his parables was the conception of the spiritual word of God, the holy seed, but (as Jesus described them) they were children; unskilled and immature, completely satisfied with their old ritualistic practices, to which, after 3500 years, they had become addicted (devoted or given up to a practice or habit or to something habit-forming as a narcotic), which like a drug gave them a feeling of euphoria (a feeling of well-being, especially one having no basis in truth or reality), giving them a false sense of peace, which in perilous times will be the wall that the prophet Ezekiel spoke of, that comes crashing down (Ezekiel 13). So what we have is a “time of trouble” brewing (Daniel 12), and a lot of people that are unskilled and unprepared because they have chosen the physical path over the spiritual pathritual over revitalization and regeneration. Intellect over intuition and revelation. Science over spirituality.

Let us rewind the reel of Jewish history back to Joseph, allegory to Jesus. Both hated for the words they spoke, both falsely accused and thrown into prison, and both taken into Egypt in order to preserve their lives. Joseph is in prison, where he meets up with the “baker” and the “butler.”  Each man has a dream, which Joseph interprets correctly. The baker will be beheaded, but the butler will return to his butlership to continue his work. The baker symbolizes John, the butler symbolizing Jesus, revealing what would take place 2000 years down the road a time of transition, from the repentance and ritual associated with John to the spiritual revitalization and regeneration associated with Jesus. But unfortunately religion (with its ritualistic practices) prevailed, the spiritual path through the heart completely covered by 460AD. But 1500 years later, the spiritual path through the heart was restored, illustrated by Joseph’s release from prison, the corn Joseph gathered into the storehouses symbolizing the spiritual word of God, which preserved through the symbolism of the literal word of God is now feeding those few who have chosen the spiritual path through the heart. But unfortunately, it is going to take a lot more tribulation before those that have chosen the path of repentance and ritual to hunger for the spiritual corn and thirst for the new wine.

In the spring of 2010 it was revealed to me that we are in the same place were were 2000 years ago, our spiritual stagnation over the past 1500 plus years due to the exoteric teachings that are synonomous with the doctrines of religion. It was then, and is now, a time of transition. Time to move beyond our many mind-body disciplines and into a heart discipline, which Jesus revealed through his esoteric teachings, which only those few choosing the path through the heart understood.

I believe this is the last call to ascend the mount, which the children of Israel were instructed to do on the 3rd day, but declined out of fear, putting themselves in bondage to a law. We entered the 3rd day with the new millennium. It is time to leave behind the worshipping of false religious images, moving beyond our ritualistic practices, which like the law, have NO POWER to bring us into perfection, their power and authority cut off BEHEADED!

“If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?” Hebrews 7:11.

The children of Israel (chosen out of all the nations to teach us about ourselves) received this carnal law because they transgressed the spiritual law of God. The ritualistic feasts and festivals served as a tangible pattern for the spiritual, which they would have kept had they reached spiritual maturity by not resisting the Spirit of God, which they illustrated for us by resisting Moses. Their second opportunity came two thousand years ago when the spiritual son, seed, or word of God (made flesh) returned to take them out from the bondage that comes with keeping the letter of the law, and into the freedom that comes with keeping the spirit of the law or spiritual law. But they rejected this spiritual knowledge, preferring to continue in their childish ways, never experiencing their transfiguration on the mount.

THE BEHEADING of John the Baptist, who preached repentance and ritual, is crying out to us, telling us that our head— our mind, and our ritualistic practices, whatever they may be, NO LONGER HAVE POWER. The spiritual power that at one time could be activated through disciplines of the mind and body can now only be activated through a discipline of the heart.

“To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David…” 2 Samuel 3:10.
